Les questions

Students have been practicing how to ask and answer questions in French. Using a PowerPoint that they all had access to, students stated an activity they do often on their own personal slide. Then, they went to four other slides and asked their classmates questions about their activities. Then, they came back to their own slide and answered the questions. Eventually, they removed the questions altogether so that only the answers remained. Then, we played a game where I showed the class a slide and asked a question and the class had to figure out which of the answers was the answer to that question.

Les poèmes

Students recently wrote poems about themselves in French, then shared them with a few of their classmates. Some were even brave enough to share their poem with the whole class! Here are a few of the poems.

Students also wrote a poem about someone else to present to them as a gift. Here are a few of those poems.

Phryges

Recently, students learned about the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic mascot, the phrygian cap! These caps, called phryges in French, were worn by French people throughout history. Students then designed their own phryge and gave it an identity. Here are some of the results!

Next, we will be voting on an identity for our class’s plush phryge!

Note:  The intellectual property rights to the mascots is most likely owned by the Paris Organising Committee for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is believed that the use of mascots’ likenesses in the form of coloring pages for educational purposes qualifies as fair use under U.S. Copyright Law.

Poisson d’avril !

Before break, students learned about the French tradition of “Poisson d’avail” (April Fish), where children stick fake fish on each people’s backs as an April Fool’s Day joke! There was a lot of fun and excitement in the classroom trying it out!
